The Grimoire of Exalted Deeds Magazine originally began in 1991 as a photocopied fanzine.  In April of 1996 it was registered as a business and changed format to newsprint. Issue $6 was the first such newsprint issue and printed 13,00 copies.  Chris Pelletier and Don Decker assisted in the next transformation in 1997 when the Grimoire of Exalted Deeds became the official Milwaukee Metalfest magazine/program.  That issue featured interviews with the bands that played the fest and also contained the band showtimes for the Metalfest.  This was issue #12 and was the first issue to have a full color glossy cover.  The actual print run was 40,000 copies, 64 pages. The magazine became all glossy and full color in when issue #23 came out. 

This website was originally intended to be a no-frills archive of the magazine articles, so the visual aspects were not a concern.  In March 2007 it was decided to revamp this site and to make it an entity unto itself.  Interviews, reviews, and other content is updated rapidly and provided in fuller detail (space might be limited in the printed version), and there is an enormous quantity of content that is only available to the online subscribers, such as audio interviews, nude photographs, special streamed video, forums, and other exlusive material.
