Anyone here much of a gun enthusiast? After reading a gun magazine on the crapper, I've decided I want to purchase a 1911 .45 handgun 'cause that's the gun that looks closest to the ones they always use in movies.

Holy shit! Someone finaly posted! I actually bought my gun already. I bought a Colt 1911 .45 last Sunday! Brand new, $900. I fucking love that gun. I don't know ANYTHING about guns. I just bought the Colt by chance 'cause it looked the coolest and I remembered that Colt was the original company that made 'em.  I read the instruction manual for an hour before I even touched the fucking thing. I didn't know how to release the clip, cock it or anything.  It's the begining of a new hobby for me. Now I'm looking for literature on how to take these fuckers apart and clean 'em.   That thing is LOUD. I've fired shotguns and 303 rifles and they're no where near as loud as the 45.  I'm actually 100% deaf in my left ear so I didn't bother plugging that ear when I was getting ready to fire.  I put a plug in real quick however. Everytime I fired I could FEEL the sound pounding my eardrum and I was afraid it would rupture. Not that it would matter in that ear, I just didn't want to bleed on my shirt. HAHA  Also, I didn't expect the shells to shoot out like they did. Kept bouncing off my head. Shoots NICE. I've read about shoddy triggers with 5, or 7 pound pulls, mine feels like .5 lb pull.  Definitly a "hair trigger".

I'm also kind of on an assault rifle kick right now. Know anything about them?

Thats fucking rad. I love shooting, been doing it since I was a kid. It never gets old, and you can only get better. Prices of ammo suck ass though right now. You made an excellent purchase. I have to wear protection when I shoot my .45. I'm also a nut about eye and ear safety personally, but there is something about the decibles produced displacing the air around the shot of a .45 that is fucking loud and fucking hurts my ear to hell. I think my eardrum is going to pop when I don't have plugs in on the .45. Most any other gun is easy enough to shoot without ears, you just go temporarily deaf. Disasembling the colt is kinda a pain in the ass, but you'll get used to it.

I known a lot of people that have got in a little financial trouble and put their guns in hock. Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT YOU GUNS IN HOCK!! They're like fucking airplanes, they only go up in value as the years pass, especially if you take care of them
