Six Feet Under - Commandment

This was my introduction to Six Feet Under. I’ve avoided them all these years because of all the bad things I’d heard about them. But I was curious and I also wanted to review another newer album that I wouldn’t normally buy.

My favorite Chris Barnes album is the last one he did with Cannibal Corpse, The Bleeding. His vocals were perfect then. Some people hate the high pitched stuff he added to his vocals but for me that was the best part of the album. They would pop out of nowhere and to me, they sounded like a kettle steaming or a hydraulic press. Almost like Seth Putnam’s vocals. Well my main gripe with Commandment is the vocals. His lows are fine but he’s changed his high pitched stuff. Instead of picturing a machine or acid, when his highs come in I just imagine a horny goat or a cat in heat. I don’t know if he made a conscious decision to do that (he does it on the Torture Killer - Swarm! Album as well) or if he is just physically incapable of generating piercing shrieks anymore but it fucking blows. It’s so awkward sounding, the first time I heard it I laughed my ass off.

I guess the content of this album is more along the lines of their older stuff. There is NO political message or any duets with Ice Tea and all the songs are about zombies and murder. The music is alright. I really liked the guitar sound. The riffs are all really simple but catchy as fuck. Of course they‘re all pretty familiar sounding. Just listen to the song Bled to Death and tell me you don’t expect King Diamond to say “AAAAAAHHHH!! Bring the black box to the altar!!!” The album as a whole reminds me a lot of Obituary. In fact this sounds more like Obituary than the overrated shit stain Xecutioner’s Return.

This CD isn’t bad but it’s not great either. I can’t decide if it belongs in my shame box or in my normal pile of Cds. It’s spent equal time in both. I say this a lot but it’s really just a fun release. If you take it at face value and don’t have any high expectations you wont be disappointed. HAHA I don’t think anyone who’s been exposed to much more talented Death Metal bands like Malignancy, Rotting, Séance, or even Cannibal Corpse will really like this band but I guess it’s a good gateway album. People who listen to this may eventually seek something stronger and become hooked to the much more intense buzz generated from listening to real Death Metal.

As well written as your review was, I feel I just have to say that every release by Six Feet Under is a piece of garbage, except of course Graveyeard Classics 2

I also never really listened to six feet under. Just all the stuff I heard about the faggy, weaker style, plus that fag has dreadlocks.  And I do agree that The Bleeding is a fucking awesome album. But a buddy of mine is die hard old cannible corpse fan and followed chris barnes to six feet under, so he is really in to them. So one day I went out and bought a six feet... album a little more than a year ago "13". It is pretty good, but not great by any means. There is some really catchy stuff on there and his vocal range is pretty fucking nice. I also noticed that it fucking sounded alot like Obituary as well, specifically "Back from the Dead". I can't remember which songs in particular sounded similar and the albums are not in front of me, but some of the hooks and rifs and just general tempo were eerily similar. Both albums are almost a decade apart in release, but the connection is there. Fucking cool that others are noticing that stuff as well.

Which, among these non-metal expressions, is the most gay? (No metalhead should EVER say any of these under any circumstance - do not even read them aloud!)
