Pathfinder
Well, I was hoping to have a great experience, but I actually walked out of the theatre.  I couldn't understand why the Indians were talking like valley girls and why the Vikings were depicted as mindlessly evil.  I also wondered how a boy could teach himself how to use a sword.  swords require a bit more than just trying to hit your opponent.  I find it really hard to believe that a boy who grew up in an Indian culture could master sword technique.  I studied Japanese swordsmanship for a few years (not because I expected to fight anyone in real life - I just found the skills to be fun to learn).  I do not think that I would have ever come upon those techniques by myself.

Anyway, I left the theatre because I couldn't stand the stupidity anymore.  Maybe I was just in the wrong mood.

Coincidentally, I managed to buy a bootleg of an old movie called "Norsemen" starring Lee Majors.  It's a DVDr. It was widescreen, which I didn't expect.  I remember having seen this movei when I was a kid, and I hoped to see it on TV again but I never had that kind of luck.  Watching it now, as an adult, provided the same sad discovery that I had when I watched "The Land of the Lost" as an adult.  What I once thought was cool as a child actually ended up being really silly when I saw it again as an adult.  In the Lee majors movie, Vikings come to America and they have a bit of a bad relationship with Indians.  When I was a kid I thought this wa a revolutionary concept and I admired the movie for it.  I guess it's the same kind of excitement that I had watching the Ultimate Fighting Championship, well, the first one, because different fighting styles were weighed against each other.

I couldn't watch the Lee Majors movie after a while and had to turn it off.  I'll be giving it to a friend of mine.  But it made me think about some differences between these days and the earlier days of Hollywood.  As bad as Pathfinder was, it had the Vikings actually speak their own language.  I'm not sure why the Indians talked like valley girls, but that's a whole other matter.  I remember reading that in the older days movies were supposed to be easy to understand.  that;s why you would see a man enter a building and a camera would follow him through every door, staircase, and floor.  I think it was a French director who boldy challenged this and perfected the jump cut.  Can't remember...

I find it disappointing that some people avoid excellent movies because of prejudice against certain actors.  I have friends who refuse to see the 13th Warrior because Antonia Bandaras (spelling?) is in it.  I saw that in the theatre four times!!! If you want to see some Scandinavian coolness, watch that one.  Another movie that people avoided was "The Butterfly Effect" because of that faggy TV star.  I don't watch much TV so I didn't know who he was.  But even if I did, it wouldn't ruin the movie for me.  You really owe it to yourself to check that one out.   Even our brutal webmaster had great things to say about "The Butterful Effect."

Re: Pathfinder
Yeah, Pathfinder didn't look good at all. It's unfortunate you had to waste money by walking out. That's great to hear about the Butterfly Effect, though, because I thought I was the only one for a while. I had to keep that shit a secret. I thought Ashton Kutcher did a good job and the movie was good enough that his mediocre skills couldn't ruin it. Plus that movie was thought provoking- something many movies nowadays lack.

Re: Pathfinder
Thats too bad about pathfinder. I thought it looked cool -fucking vikings and indians battling it out! Well, maybe I'll wait til its released to video. But speaking of viking-themed movies, are there any out there that would be recomendable? I have seen 13th Warrior and liked it very much, but other than that I have not seen too many viking flicks around.

Re: Pathfinder
I did finally get around to watching Pathfinder. A friend brought it to work one day and we watched that shit in the conference room on their new plasma tv and sound system. It was ok. I don't know if I'd buy it. It kinda sucked, a little slow and full of shit. It was entertaining though. The vikings should have killed that stupid fucker. There are so many plot holes in that piece of shit that I am sure you've figured out and that I do not have to state.

i was very dissappointed by this film. I thought it was going to be colossal and the Vikings in the previews looked awesome. Plus one of my favorite actors, Clancy Brown, had the lead role as the head Viking. Remember him as the Kurgan? he plays Ancient bloodthirsty sword wielding madmen well. I thought he has the best performance of all, but what a piece of crap that movie was, not much more to say other than it was crap.

Which, among these non-metal expressions, is the most gay? (No metalhead should EVER say any of these under any circumstance - do not even read them aloud!)
