Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy
For news/updates about this re-edit/re-shoot of "Black Metal: A Documentary" I'll post on this thread.

(BLACK METAL: A DOCUMENTARY is a limited edition DVD.  It has launched a much bigger project which is actively in the works).

I have interviewed ULVER, and will follow up with another interview when I fly to Oslo in a few weeks.  Very cool interview - very informative.

I have interviewed FINNTROLL.  Very fun.  Should provide some comedy relief as well as some interesting tidbits.

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy
Today I just did Dark Funeral and Naglfar interviews, and I was allowed to fim live concert footage.  Yet another plus.  But the bigges tnews was that I met Per, teh original singer from Deranged (Rated X).  I was trying to talk him into doing vocals on ANYTHING.  If I get enough money one day, I will pay him to do that.

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

I just filmed the interviews with Rotting Christ and Belphegor yesterday. I also was able to film some great live footage.

This will probably be released in April or May.   Are you excited?

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

I've fagged out on Black Metal this year.  Bought more Black Metal the past few months than I have in my whole life.  But this week I made a terrible mistake and bought a couple Nargaroth albums.  Bill. Have you heard of this German band whilst on your Black Metal Pilgrimage?

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

I didn't expect to like Svartsot as much as I do.  But they aren't really black metal.  I guess the folk-ish flavor reminded me of black metal, but the production and the great song writing is really far removed from what I had heard of similar bands.  And of course the brutal vocals separate it from its weaker brethren.

I've really enjoyed making the new (as yet unreleased) documentary.  I might delay it in time to interview Tyr.  I'm just not sure yet.  It's a very busy year for me.  Lot's of projects.

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

Two nights ago I interviewed Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth, which helps round out all of the varied opinions.  The bass player from Dimmu actually saw BLACK METAL: A DOCUMENTARY and remarked about some of the people causing him to feel embarrased for them because they were trying to look so tough.  One such person, whom I shall not identify here, claimed that he was good friends with Dimmu, but that person is either a compulsove liar or he is delusional.  But getting back to the bass player from Dimmu, he gave a very from-the-heart interview and even laughed and joked.  I told him that the tone of this new documentary was going to be more fun, especially because of Finntroll, ha ha.

Most of the bands who were interviewed also have live clips shot by me (or in the case of Bloodthorn and Primordial, by themselves), or music videos.  I did not shoot any live footage of Dimmu or Behemoth, but I will investigate the possibility of using some clips frmo their videos.

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

You seem to have a pretty good collection of bands.  Is there any chance that this will be on cable?

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

It looks like this DVD will actually be out in August.  I'm hard at work editing.  The process is slower than in other movies because there are 200 hours that need to be crammed into less than 2, ha ha.  But it's better to have more than less, right?

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

Hi to all:

I've had the new Black Metal documentary for a couple of weeks now and want to give my opinion about it: I like the way the documentary looks and the way it flows. The fact that there is no narrator may turn off some people, but I think that the absence of someone expressing his thoughts and ideas about what's being said on screen, will make the viewer think more for himself and get to his own conclusions. The selection of bands is extremely eclectic-not all bands are completely Black Metal(like Nagflar) and others have gone in really experimental directions,(like Ulver). This variety was very refreshing to me since one would think that a documentary with the term "Black Metal" in it's title would be a total spike-fest of boring proportions which this is certainly not. I enjoyed the performance clips aswell. They represent an improvement from the short clips that were included with the original Black Metal documentary. Overall, I enjoyed the movie very much, it feels like a labor of love from someone with true passion for Metal music and in turn it will atract the attention of those that apreciate such efforts, even if they do not agree with the opinions here presented or are new to this always controversial Metal sub-genre.

I just received an email in which Bill talks about a possible 2 DVD re-issue. Well, what can I say about that? why wasn't the double edition the definitive one? Knowing me, I'd probably buy it too, but in all honesty, I would have prefered to wait and get that 2 DVD version if I had known before hand about it's eventual release.

Re: Black Metal: The Norwegian Legacy

Thanks for the kind words Oss

But to clarify, there has not been a decision to make a 2-dvd version.  It's just something that is being talked about....

Which, among these non-metal expressions, is the most gay? (No metalhead should EVER say any of these under any circumstance - do not even read them aloud!)
